Median Rents Fall in Selected Regional Centres

Median rents in Gladstone, Mackay and Mount Isa have dropped over the past year, according to median rent data published by the RTA.

RTA data shows median rent for a 3 bedroom house in Gladstone dropped from $440 per week in the September quarter 2013 to $320 per week a year later, a 27% drop.

Over the same period weekly median rent for a 2 bedroom unit in Gladstone fell from $370 to $250.

In Mackay, the median weekly rent for a 3 bedroom house was $350 per week in the September quarter this year, down from $400 per week in the same quarter last year.

Weekly rent for a 2 bedroom unit in Mackay fell from $320 per week in the September quarter 2013 to $260 per week in the September quarter 2014.

Mount Isa also saw median rents fall, dropping from $550 in September 2013 to $480 in September 2014.

Meanwhile, median rents in Brisbane remained stable year on year, increasing from $410 to $415 for a 3 bedroom house and rising from $395 to $400 for a 2 bedroom unit.

Gold Coast also saw slight increases, with 3 bedroom house rents increasing from $410 (September quarter 2013) to $430 (September quarter 2014) and 2 bedroom unit rents rising from $350 to $360 over the same period.
