Rents in regional centres continue to fall

Median rents in Gladstone, Mackay and Mount Isa continued to fall in the December quarter 2014, according RTA median rent data.

RTA data shows median rent for a 3 bedroom house in Gladstone dropped from $500 per week in the December quarter 2012 to $400 per week a year later down to $300 per week in the December quarter 2014.

Over the same period weekly median rent for a 2 bedroom unit in Gladstone fell from $410 (2012) to $330 (2013) and down to $250 in 2014.

In Mackay, the December quarter 2012 weekly rent for a 3 bedroom house was $470. In December 2013 it fell to $395 and in the December quarter last year was down to $330.

Weekly rent for a 2 bedroom unit in Mackay fell from $370 per week in the December quarter 2012 to $300 per week in 2013 and down to $250 in 2014.

Mount Isa also saw median rents fall, dropping from $570 in December 2012 to $500 in December 2013 and $450 in 2014 for a 3 bedroom house.

Mount Isa 2 bedroom unit median rent fell from $400 in December quarter 2012 to $350 in 2013 and $300 in 2014.

Brisbane median rents showed a small increase from $400 to $410 and then $420 for a 3 bedroom house in December quarters 2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Median rent for a Brisbane 2 bedroom unit rose from $390 in December quarter 2012 to $395 in 2013 and $400 in December quarter 2014.
